Department History
Milliken Fire Protection District has a very proud history. The department was officially established May 24, 1949 with our first Chief Glenn Worst. The old Milliken Police station housed our first fire truck, a Ford Model B that was purchased by the firefighters at the time. April 25th, 1963 the courts approved the formation of a Fire Protection District that incorporated approximately 35 square miles surrounding the Town of Milliken. Soon after the newly formed Milliken Fire Protection District was honored to occupy Millikens first fire station built at Broad Street and Irene Avenue in 1963. In 1967 the fire station was expanded to fit the needs of the growing community and department with an additional business room added to the old station 1 in 1992. Milliken Fire Protection District added a second station in 1976 located in Hill N Park. Richard Casteel was appointed the Fire Chief of station 2 and a Seagrave Fire Engine was placed in service that was later replaced with a 1941 American LaFrance. Station 2 was later remodeled in 2004 with the addition of 2 apparatus bays and contemporary living quarters. In August of 2002 the District added paid firefighters to compliment our already stellar Volunteers. In 2007 Milliken Fire Protection District tore down the old station 1 and a new state of the art facility was constructed directly next door incorporating the old bank building. Millikens first fire engine the old model B is still owned by the department as well as the 1941 American LaFrance. Both the American LaFrance and the Model B are used as parade trucks and are a proud part of our rich history and tradition.
The Milliken Fire Protection District has come along way since our incorporation in 1949 thanks to the community we serve and the dedicated men and women who make up or membership. Today the district serves approximately 7,000 to 8,000 people with 10 pieces of apparatus, 6 career staff, and over 40 volunteers. Milliken Fire Protection District is very proud of the exceptional men and women who have generously served our community past and present and look forward to exceptional service well into the future.
