Volunteer Information

Volunteers are required to work 48 hours a month (12 or 24 hour shifts), attend weekly and monthly fire and EMS training. All firefighters operate under a command structure while on duty, and an Incident Command Structure (ICS) while on scene of active fire department incidents. Milliken Fire houses monthly department wide training the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 7-10 p.m. (attendance is mandatory). We strive to use the time we spend in training relevant to your success and safety while you are responding to and working emergency incidents. This training is critical to the success and safety of all department members.
All structural related fire alarms require full department response. Volunteer firefighters also need to understand they may need to respond at any time to assist neighboring fire departments, and may be required to be on scene for hours. Volunteer firefighters sacrifice a lot of time away from their families in the fire service. This work can place you in life threatening situations and requires you to be physically and mentally prepared to deal with gruesome scenes involving traffic accidents and other trauma related medical calls. If you are still interested in joining please pick up an application at station 1 Monday through Friday from 8-5 or it may be downloaded from our website. See conditions below.

EXPERIENCED FIREFIGHTERS that are already Colorado State Certified FFI and EMT-B, may apply as volunteers at any time during the year. These applicants will also need to pass a physical agility test and pass oral and/or written tests.

We strongly encourage Spanish/English bi-lingual individuals that live in Milliken to apply.
If you have any questions please contact us by phone or e-mail provided on this website.
